I have a degree in Environmental Health Science and I’m studying to obtain a Master’s in Safety, Health, and Environment. I have experience conducting safety inspections, writing reports from safety audits, leading community-led total sanitation, and enforcing safety regulations. But recently, my focus shifted towards occupational health and safety. It’s where I really want to build my lifelong career, but the challenge has been securing internship opportunities. So, I thought to put it out here. I’d be happy to receive any form of advice or guidance.
I suggest that you keep doing what you’ve just done - get yourself out there and keep asking. You could check sites such as LinkedIn too. Also - try getting to some of the free trade shows and network. I know when I was at Uni - the tutors would have details of placements, internships, and jobs. Also see if there are any local charities who might benefit from your help.
Charities are an interesting (from a health and safety perspective) due to the volunteers not being ‘employees’ in the traditional sense. There’s more about that here.
